International Women’s Day 2018 is celebrated all over world but this time LEAD, Ek Soch Sandbox took a different approach & initiative by appreciating those women who are not only fighting for their survival but also for rights & above all their own existence. Women work without a break for their families, society and friends all through the year. So, on this special day, LEAD had organized annual “Recognizing the Unrecognized”, where women in our society who are rarely recognized but are responsible for important work had recognized for their contributions, such as cleaning railway stations, bus stands, picking household trash, selling vegetables, maid, lady conductor, micro entrepreneurs, cleaner –sweepers in college, hospital nurses, etc.
LEAD and LEADers believe that, without these women, our communities would come to a standstill.
Different LEADers with different approaches & ideology put their time, heart and soul into this initiative to get into the lives of women & feel where their strength actually lies in.
LEADers from Ek Soch sandbox covering Varanasi, Lucknow and Punjab took deeply interest in this brilliant opportunity to appreciate these women. 70+ LEADers from different colleges (City Law College, Lucknow, Lovely Professional University, Punjab, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Chitkara University, Chandigarh, VCW, VKM, MGKVP, etc) identified and appreciated 7,200 Wo(W)men. Numbers can be counted but heartfelt appreciation cannot be measured in figures.
It was the day to embrace not a woman but an entire WOMANHOOD, to make them realize the power and strength within themselves and their work. So it was tried at its best by LEADers not to leave any area untouched or uncovered, even those which were rarely visited & perhaps hardly anyone thinks to visit.
But every LEADer was way too glad to have this opportunity to appreciate a woman whether she was a shopkeeper, a tea-stall owner, cleaner or an entrepreneur because woman is herself a ray of God. She is no that earthly beloved: She’s CREATIVE, not CREATED, EXACTLY! And their smiles were enough to say how they felt while receiving the appreciation certificates.
Every coin has two faces… So does this journey… the LEADers also faced rejection & humiliation but they didn’t give up after all it was about the WOMANHOOD..SO IT’S WORTH IT! The celebration end up with a lot of learning and experiences from the Wo(W)men and smile on their faces.
